If you think of selling used games, I almost guarantee GamStop is your first thought. It’s tough to compete with GameStop’s easy money / pawn shop methods. But there is one downfall, as in any market, for guaranteed money for goods and that’s the lack of return. The perfect example is this man who returned Black Ops III on launch day and got $33 in store credit. And do you know how much GameStop is going to resell that game for? $55 – $58 *head explodes*. That reseller is going to sell your game for almost 200% of what they paid you for it and it only gets worse as you look at older games that sell for a few dollars.
But don’t worry, I’m here to help you rake in the dough with:
3 Easy Ways to Get More Money Out of Your Used Games
3. Local Resellers (Small Chains or Locally Owned)
You may be familiar with a local store that buys used electronics, dvd’s, games, etc. And these stores normally pay double what GameStop will give you. There was a small chain I use to visit called “City Echoes”, very small chain, they did all of the above but they would give me about 70% of the games’ value. That means if I returned a $60 game on launch day, I would get roughly $42 – $45. This isn’t a huge amount more compared to GameStop and you normally have to be 18+ for this method, but more money is more money.
You may be a little leary of craigslist with some of the scary things that have happened or you may use craigslist on the daily and love it. Craigslist is a great way to sell your games for 80-90 percent of their value. When selling locally, people are more than happy to meet you for the exchange and it’s a fast and easy way to off-board your games for a good amount of what they’re worth.
Although we suggest Craigslist, please be responsible and use the guidelines for the best experience.
Ebay is the bread and butter selling tool for anyone looking to make quick cash. If you’re over 18 and have access to the internet, this is where you should be selling your games. You can get 95-98 percent of your games’ value depending on the condition of your game and the quality of your listing. I personally was able to pay for my PS4 by selling my old games on Ebay; games GameStop would have given me a few dollars for.
