In a forum post by a Community Manager, Blizzard has taken the stand against all cheaters on behalf of their newly anticipated video game Overwatch. With its release being just around the corner, Blizzard has stated that cheaters caught will have the penalty of being banned on their first offense.
“We’ve always taken cheating in Blizzard games very seriously, and that stance is no different for Overwatch. “Play nice; play fair” is one of our core values as a company, and it’s something we’ve taken to heart not only when designing the game, but also as we’ve developed our plans to support it and our players after launch. What does this mean for Overwatch? If a player is found to be cheating—or using hacks, bots, or third-party software that provides any sort of unfair advantage—that player will be permanently banned from the game. Full stop. “
Blizzard also affirms with its “Play of the Game” highlights and spectator camera as being imperfect, and may not represent a player’s real movement or aim. In other words, what you see may not exactly be cheating, but a player likely dealing with connection issues. Blizzard has been known for hammering cheaters to the bottom of the pit, just last summer, Blizzard conducted a huge campaign in banning an incredible amount of accounts in World of Warcraft. So Cheaters Beware!
It’s good to see a game studio like Blizzard deeply concerned on the quality and enjoyment of its players. Even after an impressive record-breaking Open-Beta that brought in 9.7 million players, a first for its company. Overwatch launches on May, 24th
