Video game movies have had its share of good and bad. This past weekend Hitman Agent 47 didn’t captivate audience with only making $4.2M at the box office. With movies based off of video games its only good to keep making ones that will somehow see the light of day as a success in Hollywood.
Lionsgate is bringing Gearbox Software’s first person shooter Borderlands to the big screen reports from Variety. Borderlands is being produced by Avi Arad and Ari Arad who have worked on super hero films such as Spider-Man and X-men.
“Part of our strategy in entering the game space under Peter Levin has been to source new brands with built-in audiences that will translate into great films and television shows,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger. “The ‘Borderlands’ games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise.”
Marvel Studios was founded in 1993 by Avi Arad. After 13yrs he went on to form his own production company with Ari Arad as president. Avi continues to produce some Marvel films.
