EA announced a brand new game during today’s EA Play Press Conference titled: A Way Out. Hazelight Studios described the game as two inmates escaping prison and running from the police—appearing much like the hit TV show PrisonBreak—however, maintaining its own unique environments, tone, and aesthetic.

The game begins in prison with two inmates by the name of Leo and Vincent—who’re strangers to one another. While the story of the game progress, the player will have to form a relationship based on trust, as you and the other character both escape prison and try to find refuge in the outside world avoiding any law officers along the way. The game is said to contain memorable action moments, stealth passages, car chases, melee fights, shootouts, all the goods and bads of escaping prison. Check out its announcement trailer up above

Executive Vice President of EA Worldwide Studios  Patrick Soderlund stated the following on behalf of the game’s announcement:

“Josef and his team at Hazelight represent everything that EA Originals stands for. They are a small and very talented group with a vision and passion for a game that is truly unique in the video game industry. A Way Out is going to surprise people with its innovative co-op gameplay and the way it tells an emotional story solely through these two characters.”

Writer and Director at Hazelight Josef Fares also added:

“This game is going to bring a co-op experience unlike anything you have ever seen before. The idea for A Way Out came when me and a friend tried to find a story driven co-op game that wasn’t a drop-in/drop-out experience. We simply could not find a game like that. We’re also bringing an innovative look into how to tell the story of both these characters. Players will be immersed in the game with the way we change the display from a full screen experience seamlessly to different cinematic split-screen formats. By focusing on the two characters in different ways, it opens up a huge variety of gameplay, as we really wanted to avoid repetitions so they will get to know the characters through very different situations.”

A Way Out is currently in development and is slated for a 2018 release. The game will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
