WipEout was first released over two decades ago in 1995. At the time it was a ground-breaking achievement in graphics and game soundtrack. The game was aimed at the music-buying, club-going audience, and wowed fans with its excellent 3D visuals and break-neck speeds. Showcased at this weekends PlayStation Experience, the game (and its aging fans) can now look forward to a remastered re-release for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro named WipEout Omega Collection.

Spanning 26 Tracks and including 46 unique racing ships, the Omega Collection is three games combined. WipEout HD, Fury and 2048 have all been superbly brought up to the modern standards of 4K and HDR gaming.

According to Sony, WipEout has appeared on every PlayStation format since 1995, so it would only seem fitting to include a special release for their new PS4 Pro. Across the three titles in the new collection, there will be 9 different game modes to enjoy:

  • Zone, Tournament, Speed Lap, Time Trial, and Single Race from HD
  • Zone Battle, Eliminator, and Detonator from Fury
  • Career Mode from 2048

WipEout has never looked so good. The Omega Collection is tentatively scheduled for release for Summer 2017. If you are unfamiliar with the classic title, then think, “Ridiculously fast racing action + Mario Kart weapons system + Superb soundtrack = Hours upon hours of futuristic racing fun.”
