Around a year ago, Microsoft stated that they will be bringing Halo back to the PC by bringing out a new game, Halo Online. VKontake, the game’s developers, have not made any progress on Halo Online since the beta ended last year in Russia. They said that they were having a break from developing the free-to-play game, as they awaited for further updates from Microsoft. On VKontake’s website, they wrote a short post giving us updates about the game.
Please note that the following quotes have been translated from Russian to English using Google Translate, so it may not be 100% accurate – sorry!
“Friends! We told you that the break is temporary and soon the game starts again. Like you, we are waiting for news from Halo Online developers and hoping for an early announcement. But over the past six months, our colleagues from Microsoft and failed to take decisions on the future of the project. Now we know only one thing – the current form of the game will not be released. In order not to deceive your hopes and expectations of new users, we close the Halo Online page on Fogeyme and freeze in the VK Group.”
The above quote explains how they have been waiting for around six months to get a reply from Microsoft, but never got a good decision made. It also tells us that they are shutting down their social medias, so they don’t build anyone’s hopes up.
The post then goes on to explain that if you put any money into the game, you’re entitled to a full refund.

It is sad to see this game not happen, officially, but there is still a chance you may be able to play it. I have heard of some modders that will be creating mods that will allow you to still play the game in the US. However, Microsoft may still stop the use of this mod, as they have not approved it, but nothing is certain yet.
