Lara Croft is surely one of computer gaming’s most iconic characters. Her adventures to the deep and high places of the world have spanned two decades, and publisher Square Enix have brought their heroine from a basic (compared to modern games) 3D style graphics with the original, right through to superb 4K definition with Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Steam are celebrating the franchise this weekend with a huge sale of up to 75% across the whole series. In total there are 14 games ranging from £1.24/$1.53 for the original title, up to £23.59/$29.14 for the Tomb Raider Collection containing every DLC and version of the game (minus Rise of the Tomb Raider.)
The latest visit to the Lara Croft universe has recently seen upscaling for the PS4 Pro, to bring its visuals to 4K resolution. The PC version was in no need of such improvements, and Rise of the Tomb Raider is a dazzling return to the hostile environments, gun battles and ancient ruins that made the series so popular from its inception. That sees a discount of 50% from its usual price of £39.99/$49.40.
If you are old enough to remember the original Tomb Raider, the scene where you drop into a lost world and come face to face with a terrifying Tyrannosaurus Rex still remains as one of the most heart-pounding moments in game history. By today’s standards, especially graphics wise, it is probably underwhelming. To experience it for the first time however may still give you sweaty controller palms. Some classic gaming moments are worth trying for yourself. This is definitely one of them.
The Steam sale on the Tomb Raider Series lasts until 10am PT.
